Homeopathic medicine treats the whole person,
bringing freedom from symptoms while restoring balance and a deep sense of overall well being. Your individualized treatment will address your physical and emotional health.
In homeopathy, it has been found that there is no one medicine that can treat everyone with a particular illness; in fact if 10 women came to my office with menopause symptoms, I would likely prescribe 10 different medicines!

Premenstrual Syndrome
Many women suffer from premenstrual syndrome (PMS) resulting from hormonal imbalance. Symptoms such as anger, depression, anxiety, breast tenderness, bloating, pain, and fatigue can make for monthly misery – but a healthy balance can be found, naturally.  Treatment focuses on your physical symptoms, overall health history, stresses, diet and any related emotional factors.
Randomized Controlled Clinical Trials are also showing positive results from treatment:
Yakir M, Kreitler S, Brzezinski A, et al. Effects of homeopathic treatment in women with premenstrual syndrome: a pilot study. Br Homeopath J 2001; 90: 148-53
Menstrual Cramps
Many women experience severely painful menstrual cramps. Conventional medicine offers little other than drugs for pain and birth control pills which suppress the hormonal cycle. Symptoms can include all aspects of the menstrual cycle, menstrual cramps, heavy bleeding, clotting, and also absent periods.  Treatment takes into account the symptoms, health history, diet and lifestyle, and stress. I have found it particularly important to look at the mind-body connections in relation to menstrual cramps and other menstrual problems.
Pre and Post Natal Health
Homeopathy is very safe for pregnant women because the remedies are so highly diluted (see About Homeopathy for more information). It has been used for 200 years by midwives and homeopaths to treat complaints of pregnancy such as morning sickness, fatigue, digestive upset, heartburn, and constipation.
Women who are hoping for a natural birth with fewer medical interventions can benefit from homeopathic remedies for childbirth. There are remedies to gently induce labour, establish effective contractions, ease pain, ease back labour, give you more energy, and help you heal afterwards. I offer a birth kit with which includes 15 remedies you can bring to your birth and a consultation to personalize your kit and go over when and how to use the remedies in the kit. See Pre and Postnatal Services for more information.
After your baby is born, you may want support with breastfeeding difficulties, a colicky baby or postpartum depression. This is an important time for taking care of yourself as well as baby, and a homeopath can offer advice to ensure you recover from the birth and have the energy and vitality you need to care for your new little one.
Breastfeeding
It’s beautiful! And natural, but sometimes there’s a learning curve and sometimes one encounters problems with milk supply, painful breasts, engorgement, mastitis or thrush. There are many natural ways to help with these problems, and many solutions are out there. I can also provide referrals and resources about breastfeeding for further support.
Menopause
Menopause is an important transition period for women and an excellent time to have homeopathic constitutional treatment. With the recent controversy around the dangers of hormone replacement therapy, many women are seeking safe alternative therapies. Natural treatment can address symptoms such as hot flashes, dry skin, mood swings, libido problems, anxiety, bladder problems, sleeplessness and depression.
A study published in the Journal of the British Menopause Society looked at results of homeopathic treatment in a community menopause clinic. They found that 80% of women treated with individualized homeopathic prescriptions experienced significant improvements in their hot flashes, tiredness, sleep problems, headaches and psychological problems. ( Relton, Weatherly-Jones, 2005, Menopause International vol. 11 p.72-73)
Depression
Depression affects many women and can be related to hormones, prolonged stress, history of trauma or abuse, social factors or physical factors such as thyroid disorders and nutritional deficiencies. Sometimes the cause is unknown. Depression is treated (some say over-treated) conventionally with drugs which often have unpleasant side effects. The homeopathic remedies used for depression do not interact with conventional drugs, and I often treat women who want to slowly wean off as they feel better from the homeopathic treatment.
One study showed that homeopathy was just as effective as a common antidepressant medication:
Adler UC, et al. Homeopathic Individualized Q-Potencies vs Fluoxetine for Moderate to Severe Depression: Double -blind, Randomized Non-Inferiority Trial. eCAM, 2009
Fertility
If you are trying to conceive, homeopathy along with diet and lifestyle changes can support you.  Conventional medicine alone cannot adequately treat fertility issues such as hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, stresses and other lifestyle factors which all have an impact on your ability to conceive. For example, regular ovulation can be affected by your weight, sleep patterns, caffeine consumption, and history of birth control pill use, among other factors.
Chronic Pain and Fibromyalgia
Chronic pain can be difficult to understand and diagnose. Homeopaths are able to treat the symptoms even if the exact cause is not completely understood, and especially if there are stress-related issues or emotional roots.
Clinical Trials showing positive results for homeopathy in fibromyalgia:

Fatigue
Fatigue is a common complaint in my clinic. Women are leading stressful lives, often balancing multiple demands and workloads. Feeling run down, not waking up feeling rested, having too little energy to keep up with your usual fast-paced life. Fatigue can be caused by many things, including low thyroid function, adrenal fatigue, chronic fatigue syndrome, poor nutrition, iron deficiency, deficiency of other vitamins such as vitamin B12, insomnia, and chronic stress. We would look at all aspects of your lift to determine the best homeopathic medicine for your fatigue.
This clinical trial of homeopathy for chronic fatigue showed positive results: Weatherley-Jones E, Nicholl JP, Thomas KJ, et al. A randomized, controlled, triple-blind trial of the efficacy of homeopathic treatment for chronic fatigue syndrome. J Psychosom Res 2004; 56: 189-97
Migraines
Research has shown that migraine headaches can be successfully treated to remove the need for strong pain medications. People who experience migraines have a wide range of type of pain, duration, and location of pain. There are homeopathic remedies that ‘match’ the various types of pain and accompanying symptoms such as nausea or vomiting. We also look at stress, lifestyle and diet as factors.
Brigo B. Serpelloni G. Homeopathic treatment of migraines: a randomized double-blind study of sixty cases (homeopathic remedy versus placebo). Berlin Journal on Research in Homeopathy 1991: 1: 98-106
Insomnia
There are many reasons for insomnia, and it strongly affects the physical and emotional well being of the sufferer. Sleep can be affected by stress levels, anxiety, thyroid imbalances, worrying, and menopausal changes. Homeopathic remedies can also address things like nightmares and night terrors in children as well as lack of sleep.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Digestive problems
Digestive disorders can include : IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis), heartburn, constipation, diarrhea, chronic bloating, gas, ulcers, acid reflux, and gastritis.
Irritable bowel syndrome is very common among women, and is often linked with emotional stress and anxiety. We would therefore closely examine and treat any anxiety associated with IBS, and find a constitutional remedy for you that will help both the anxiety (if this is a factor) and the IBS symptoms.
Clinical research also supports homeopathic remedies in the following conditions:

Homeopathy is Individualized
Homeopaths often say ‘we treat the person, not the disease’. Because of this individualized approach we do not claim to cure any particular disease with a particular homeopathic remedy. Homeopathy addresses the deeper imbalances that bring on symptoms. For more information see About Homeopathy.
