About Gaela

Gaela Nelson, rigistered Homeopath in Ottawa OntarioGaela Nelson

I am a registered Homeopath specializing in women and children’s health. I have seven years of clinical experience, four years of homeopathic training and I’m a mother of two young children.

As a registered member of the Canadian Society of Homeopaths, I am dedicated to high standards in homeopathic practice. I completed the four year Practitioner (International) program of the School of Homeopathy (Devon UK) and post graduate studies with the Canadian Homeopathic Institute in Ottawa.

I have a vision of women’s health care as holistic, respectful, accessible,  and sensitive to the issues women face. I believe that the body and mind are not separate,  and have seen real healing happen when women’s inherent wisdom is respected and valued.

I have successfully treated morning sickness, postpartum depression, menopausal hot flashes,  anxiety, pelvic floor pain, premature labour, low milk supply, colic, anxiety, breast pain, thrush, late starting labour, ineffective contractions,  Meniere’s Disease, skin problems, ADD/ADHD, phobias, ear infections, croup, ‘high needs’ babies, digestive problems, fertility problems, menstrual cramps,  hormonal imbalances and other conditions.

I am registered with the Canadian Society of Homeopaths, whose members must meet stringent educational criteria,  ongoing professional development requirements and abide by a professional code of ethics.  http://www.csoh.org

I am also registered with the Academy of Naturopaths and Naturotherapists  (A.N.N.)

My Journey

Homeopathic treatment helped my husband and I overcome fertility issues and supported me through a healthy pregnancy and the natural birth of my daughter Rowan.  Constitutional treatment helped to clear many chronic problems, improving both my physical and emotional well-being, and prepared me for a natural birth.  My son was also born naturally, thanks to a few remedies and a wonderful midwife.  Now we try to live a balanced, natural life in this busy world, and get our kids into the woods whenever we can!

I practice meditation and try to bring principles of compassion and generosity to my work.

Before becoming a homeopath I studied Environmental Studies (BA) and I remain very interested in the links between environment and health, and women’s health in particular.  I am also concerned about issues of global economic justice, having worked in Fair Trade (Bridgehead) for many years and co-founding a local fair trade chocolate company (Cocoa Camino).
